I’m Aletha, and I have been exactly where you are. I was juggling all the things and barely hanging on. I would wake up at 4:00 in the morning with my school to-do list on my mind, but I also had three amazing children of my own that I still needed to get dressed, packed, and out the door on time. I would end my school day with stacks and stacks of paper on my desk waiting to be graded, but I also needed to take care of all the family things–vollleyball practice, soccer practice, tutoring, dinner, homework, bedtime routines, and the list goes on. The last thing I wanted to do 9:00 at night was pull out a school bag and start prepping for the next day. All I really wanted was a snack and few quiet minutes to unwind and reconnect with my husband. It took me a few years, but I finally found the balance. I put a few simple systems and habits in place that helped me create a balance. Through trial and error I created a life that allowed me to be at my best for my students and my family…and even a little time left over for ME.
