One of my favorite Valentine’s Day early finisher activities is to have students write a Valentine’s Day themed story where they incorporate holiday vocabulary or themes. This is a great way to encourage creativity, storytelling and writing skills. Here are a few prompts to keep your early finishers busy:

  • Imagine you receive a magical Valentine’s card that transports you to a whole new world. Describe what this world looks like and the exciting adventures you have.
  • In a magical forest, there’s a tree that grows heart-shaped leaves. Write a story about a group of animal friends who discover this tree and what they do with its special leaves.
  • Your favorite Valentine’s candies have gone missing! Write a detective story where you and your friends team up to solve the mystery and find out who took them.
  • Write a letter to yourself that you’ll open on Valentine’s Day ten years from now. Include things you hope to have accomplished, favorite memories, and what you’d like to say to your future self.
  • One day, you discover a tiny love bug who has a special power to make people feel loved. Write about a day in the life of this adorable creature and the joy it spreads.

A classic among the Valentine’s Day early finisher activities is to provide students with an opportunity to spread kindness by writing short, heartfelt notes to classmates, friends, or family members with DIY Valentine’s Day cards. This promotes both creativity and empathy. Set up a craft station with materials for making Valentine’s Day cards or decorations by providing craft supplies such as construction paper, stickers, and glitter.

Incorporating Valentine’s Day early finisher activities not only keeps students engaged but also infuses a fun, festive atmosphere into your classroom. These activities cater to a range of learning styles and skills, ensuring that every student benefits.
