In this blog post, we will give you three fun math activities that can also be turned into eye-catching bulletin boards for your classroom!
Activity # 1: Number Line Holiday Lights
Equivalent Fraction Holiday Lights can be used to create a fun and festive bulletin board display! This Christmas math activity is perfect for 3rd and 4th grade because it helps them practice basic understanding of fractions on a number line and plotting equivalent fractions. Plus, it’s a great way to get them into the holiday spirit!
To get started, make a number line on your display board. All you need is a big black line to be the lighting wire and a few sparse lightbulbs to identify the major benchmark fractions. Then let kids decorate holiday lights, label them with a fraction, and place the light in the right location on the number line light string. The finished products are sure to add some holiday cheer to your hallways displays without sacrificing valuable practice opportunities. Activity # 3: Make a Geometree
Geometree is the last fun Christmas math activity that can be used to create a bulletin board display! This activity is quick and easy. It’s also perfect for helping your students practice geometry vocabulary and skills. It’s as simple as it sounds. Cut out 3 slightly different-sized green triangles to be the branches of the tree and a brown rectangle for the trunk of the tree. Then let your students decorate the tree with one rule: Every ornament that goes on the tree must be made from geometric shapes. Have students label the shapes before adding them to the tree. The finished product of this Christmas math activity is a festive holiday tree to brighten your classroom or hallways!
